The World Fly Fishing Championships are
organized by the host country which is selected on a
tender basis in much the same way countries tender for
the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. The World
Championships are then planned and run by the host
country in conjunction with the international body
“Federation De Peche Sportive Mouche” which is generally
referred to as just Fips Mouche.
There are currently 27 countries eligible
to compete in the World Championships.
Teams are selected from the best
competitive fly fishers in their country, with five fly
fishers competing for Individual Champion and World
Champion Team. Teams are often led by a Team Captain who
acts as a reserve fisherman.

from the top 15 ranked members from the Australian
National Fly Fishing Championships held two years
earlier than the year of the World Fly Fishing

The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships are organized
by a host country selected in much the same way as the
host country for the World Fly Fishing Championships is
determined.

generally in the odd numbered years when the Worlds are
held in the United Kingdom in that same year.
Australia sends two teams of six members.

for the first team and all the second team are selected
