Fly Fish Australia's mandate is primarily to select the best fly fishers to represent Australia in the World, Commonwealth and Oceania Championships. To be eligible for selection one must be a member.

Becoming a member entitles you to fish in a State Championship of your choice and if you finish in the top 33% of entrants you are then eligible to fish in the Nationals, you do not have to be a member of any club to be a member of FFA. You do not have to be a fly fisher to be a member.
